At its core, the Botanical Canteen is a fully-functioning, scaleable year-round gardening system that uses advanced technology to bring fresh produce grown onsite to the lunchtables of workers. Adding an interactive element and teambuilding activity to the garden, the workers themselves harvest the produce under the guidance of a professional gardener on a rotating basis, which is then taken to the kitchen to be prepared for the daily lunch service. In addition to its everyday function to supply workers with fresh, healthy food, the garden also serves as a space for learning, where workers can join in on periodic workshops related to garden maintenance, health and nutrition, and cooking.
Which target group is your concept for?
This concept is ideal for working campuses with fairly large numbers of workers, ranging in the hundreds to the thousands, so it is great for production workers or campuses with large numbers of knowledge workers, or campuses that integrate the two.
How does digitization & connectivity create a unique eating experience?
In this scenario, digitization will occur within the maintenance of the garden and the produce inventory system. An application will allow the chef and garden managers to coordinate when produce is ripe for picking, and where throughout the campus it can be picked. The plan is architectural, spatial and scaleable, which will be visualized in the presentation, while the system design involves modern technological advances in agriculture that can streamline the process from garden to plate.

Employees enjoy high quality, locally grown produce year-round, taking advantage of the nutritional benefits of seasonal meals full of healthy ingredients. They also have the opportunity to participate in the gardening process itself, as well as extracurricular workshops that happen periodically throughout the garden. The extension of the garden in the office and canteen fosters a sense of wellbeing, cleans the air and makes working life more enjoyable and aesthetically pleasing.

The Botanical Canteen is an onsite working garden and cafeteria concept that brings homegrown produce to workers’ plates and serves as a space for participation, teambuilding, and workshops. The idea is to foster employee wellness, teambuilding, and a more sustainable way of life, adding value to both the workers' lives and the company's core values and spirit.
