Warm wood is a concept on which the a floor heating is integrated in the laminate structure.


Warm wood is a concept on which the a floor heating is integrated in the laminate structure. The laminate has a wire system incorporated that conducts electricity. The electricity heats up the laminate in a certain area. This allows the user to actively control the floor temperature in every room or area.


Target group:

The main target group are people that live in rental apartments/rental houses. In the most apartments it is technically not possible to lay a normal floor heating after the construction, because the construction work would influence the underlying neighbor. These people are not able to choose for integrated floor heating. The warm wood enables a option to get floor heating without heavy construction work on the floor. Compared to normal floor heating, purchase and installation costs on the warm wood concept are relatively low.

The warm wood additionally offers users the ability to actively change the floor temperature with a very high response time.

Technical background

Laminate is placed in several ways. The right way is mainly defined by the bottom surface and the area of use. Several optional bottom layers of hardboard (for uneven floors), sound isolation and moisture isolation are used. 

The moisture layer is a aluminum foil layer that is sold, glued to a foam isolation layer. This aluminum layer is an ideal temperature conductor and should function as a thermal conductor. The foam layer under the aluminum will function as an isolator, effectively reflecting the heat up towards the bottom of the laminate floor.

Product setup

The warm wood product mainly consists of a electrical wire(heating element) and a control unit. The electrical wire(heating element) is placed in an even pattern on to the aluminum layer of the isolation foil. Afterward the wire is taped to its location this should be done with the same aluminum tape that is used to connect the isolation foil. The aluminum tape will help conduct the heat of the wire to the laminate floor.  

Depending on the size of the floor, the density of the pattern that the wire was laid or the size of the controllable area the length of the heating cable will vary. The length of the used wire will be used as a setting for the control unit. The control unit is able to calculate the amount of energy needed to heat up the wire, by the length and variables of the cable.

The control unit will be placed on the sides of the laminate floor hidden under the edge protection of the floor. It can be controlled by a remote control or a emergency button should always be reachable.



Using a electrical heating system has advantages and disadvantages. The main issue is  the safety against possible fire. The systems heating cable has a dual wire cable. One is used to heat the floor. The other wire is used for safety. The control unit  will be able to calculate the heat of the wire by the wire�s electrical resistance. This creates a safety system that prevents overheating.

It enables people who are not albe to get a normal floor heating, to get a integrated floor heating. this floor heating reacts quickly and does not need any construction work.

How does your idea solve the problem?

It can be placed withoud having to breake open the concrete from the floor.

What is the benefit of your idea for the target group?

People who are by financial reason or by law restricted to lay a normal floor heating (break open concrete floor), can place the warm wood concept for a new generation of variable floor heating.

Which materials are you using and why?

materials of the system will mainly be created with plastic cases, electrical system and electrical wire. This concept does not lay the focus on the laminate it self but on a total product concept.

Which aesthetic does your idea follow?

As this is a mainly technical concept. the system should work with every PARADOR floor on the market. though it schould be focused on some main products of PARADOR
