Solution

METROPOLIS design exercise that started with thoughts about "unwanted" parts of wood in the production process, and the solution was aimed to reduce waste by allowing smaller pieces [< 20 cm] to be used as a prime flooring solution. Another goal was to not introduce usage of some new type of wood, or a new type of finnish as a design solution, but to use existing existing Parador production.

Presented solution enables the manufacturer to provide quick and efficient solution to every design need by allowing the customer to get a relevant and unique floor design, simply by scanning a photograph. For a more universal designs, there are several ready-made lines, such as Abstracts and Paterns.

Which problem does your idea solve?

1.) Possible production inefficiencies. 2.) Costly number of working hours associated with the production of mosaics and custom solutions. 3.) Conservative design solutions.

How does your idea solve the problem?

1.) By bringing back small percentage of material, that would be otherwise discarded, back in the prime production. 2.) By incorporating software solution. 3.) By offering virtually unlimited possibilities and tailored solutions efficiently.

What is the benefit of your idea for the target group?

Freedom to choose exactly what they want/need.

Which materials are you using and why?

Salvaged solid wood. Raising material efficiency.

Which aesthetic does your idea follow?

Any you could think of.
