the cloud and the suns
an app for caregivers sharing their raw emotions and feeling supported and understood

The cloud is the one dark thought that everyone can have in such difficult situations and the suns are the thoughts of others that overcome the dark feeling of the first. If one has a really bad day, the rest can lift oneself up by sending a personal message, a quote, or a picture that acts as a beam of light in a gloomy day.

Describe a caregiver situation that you were/are involved in.

My godmother has a daughter who up until the age of nine was healthy. However, she started having problems that led to ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). From that point I never saw my godsister walk, talk or move. My godmother since then was a total different person, very hypotonic and hardly smiled. Although in her case, she was a bit lucky as she had the support from all the members of close family and friends. She wasn’t all alone. She was sharing with others who were inside the situation.

Explain the caregiver problem that resulted for you and/or other caregiver(s).

The problem that I spotted from many stories of other caregivers apart from my godmother’s is that dark feelings that are common to anyone yet alone to caregivers are often criticized or censored because of the general idea of happiness that people try to achieve. Inside happiness no dark thoughts or feelings are allowed. And especially not expressed. This results in a variety of mental issues for the caregiver including depression and/or anger. You can have a gloomy day and be happy.

Describe your caregiver solution that would provide assistance or relief to the problem of the caregiver.

It is a neutral space for caregivers who suffer from depression, job stress, low self-esteem, negative, internalized anger and dark thoughts in general. Most of the time the above are neglected as terrifying or gathered up only to result in something bad. By sharing one dark thought through the app helps caregivers to situate their mental state and feel self-aware of their feelings being common to other users of the app while being supported.
