TEVA organised care group with the sole objective of regular interaction with caregivers.

Solution

TEVA could organise a care group (volunteer or paid) whose sole aim is to lend support to caregivers. CARECORPS number one mission would be to pay regular or occasional visits to carers and their wards. The period of those visits will enable social interaction. CARECORPS would listen and talk to carers about the challenges they face and give advice and encouragement. Care corps might even share in the carers duties on those visits. CARECORPS will bring material resources and share with the carer the latest care techniques. I believe there is no technology or apps that could replace human to human interaction and this is what caring is all about. The mental and psychological well being of carers is what we are after and getting others to be engaged with the carers is the one true way we can say the rest of us cares.

Describe a caregiver situation that you were/are involved in.

I remembered when I was young and my grandmother was sick and in her last days. My mother was caring for her and I was the youngest child of my mother so I was around both of them.

Explain the caregiver problem that resulted for you and/or other caregiver(s).

I could see the number one challenge was getting others to stand in for her while she run errands in my nana's care and other errands that are not connected. She still had to care for me and my siblings. I could see how my mother had to call on aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces to stand in for her on those occasions. It was usually difficult as everyone seemed to always be busy. Sometimes she just wanted someone to come around and talk to as she would complain then.

Describe your caregiver solution that would provide assistance or relief to the problem of the caregiver.

I think a visit group could have helped my mother to cope with the psychological and mental burden. If only someone could just lend hear to her and listen and share stories with her. She seemed to be dealing with everything on her own and you could see the toll on her face most times.
