When I saw this new project, I start doing some research about the Holidays theme. Since this card have multiple purposes and publics, I didn't want that it be too much infantil or too serious either. So, I went to a minimal and classic style, where I worked with funny elements from Christmas, like the Christmas tree. In the Holidays, doing the Christmas tree is part of a family ritual and I wanted that the card has that feeling of serenity but yet colorful. Throught the card, we are almost seeing a up view from the floor where is a mess of decorations and some tree branches left behind from decorating the Christmas tree. From that reference, I developed a color palete with red, white and green, and a background color I decided that a light pink would complement the details of the design. I developed the vector elements too: tree types of Christmas decorations; the brances; and the candy cane. Also, I start thinking on how this card could be in anyway a gift. I know that a card itself is a wonderfull Christmas, at least to me that I love stationary and little postals. But I'm talking about an even better gift that we could use with a different function. So, I decided that since the design creates a pattern possible to be used in anything, the card has pop up that could be removed and transformed into a Christmas decoration for our trees. That way, UNICEF would be part of all of our Holidays, no matter what.
Which theme did you chose for your card design?
Like I said before, I went in with the Christmas tree theme. Eventough the card could be not only about Christmas but also about New year, I wanted that all the elements were funny and colorful, but in the same graphic tone. Also, I think that some parts of the card could be embossed with glitters to give it some dimension.
Does your card design appeal both to private and corporate users?
Yes, that was the main focus. Like I said before, I didn't want it to be too infantil or too serious, I wanted something that could create in some way a dream about the Holidays, but with a wide target public. Also, I tried to create a minimal design where the color floats around a red base, so that the card and the pop up star could be more easily adapted to our houses and decoration.
Are all parts of the design 100% your original work or did you use any stock or third party material? If yes, please link all stock, fonts and Creative Commons material here:
Yes, I have done wall the design on Illustrator and Photoshop myself. Also, I used some collage elements to create the enviroments.
