Matryoshkas are russian dolls made in different sizes so they can be placed one inside the other. For this project, they represent femininity through their geometric and organic shape, allying antique and current concepts.

The sophistication of the matryoshkas is mostly in the complexity of the paiting. The dolls follow different themes: traditional peasant girls, fairy tale characters and even old leaders of the Soviet Union.

A famous Russian crafts painter from Abramtsevo created them inspired by a set of wooden japanese dolls representing The Seven Gods of Fortune, the Shichi-fuku-jin.
