The greatest appeal of a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife is it's versatility, it can be used in a huge range of situations by anyone. The spectrum of colour here represents the diversity of the Victorinox community and user-base to show the great diversity of human beings.
Solution
What does your design show?
Patchy, expressive brush strokes to form a border spectrum around most of the casing. No additional features were added to keep the design simple and in keeping with the theme, diversity. I used a spectrum to show unity, that anyone can use a Swiss Army Knife and benefit from doing so.
What is the unique idea about your design?
I tried a variety of variations of the technique before settling on this one including dropping paint brushes onto the paper, using fabric, sponges and toothbrushes instead of a brush and pointillism techniques. The idea for the theme came when I was considering who the target market would be before concluding that the product could be sold to anyone, it has no singular purpose, it's range of users are as diverse as it's range of uses, like a spectrum.
Is there a special story behind your design?
The technique was originally conceived of when trying different methods for my second design 'Expression', I decided that, while the technique wasn't quite right for that design, it could be utilised for this one and began developing the idea.
