Der Steinpilzsammler/ The Porcini Collector
Der Steinpilz und seine Freunde (the so called stone-mushroom, in reference to its dense flesh)

While living in Switzerland I rediscovered the woods. They smelled like home, they reminded me of mushroom gathering expeditions with my parents and of seeking the most coveted prize of them all, the porcini. Mushroom-gathering is an international language, and it binds people and their childhood memories, irrespective of where their childhood had been spent. A Swiss friend gave me his old Victorinox knife, so I could ‘properly’ harvest my find without imperiling next year’s production

What is the story behind your design?

He and his wife taught me how to cook the porcini, once we found enough. We not only shared meals but childhood stories and happy memories. I still have Börni’s old knife, and I carry it with me wherever I go, including to the Austrian forests, where I hunt my porcinis now. I would very much like to return the gift, in the form of a knife for mushroom collectors the world over and, hopefully, one for Börni’s daughter Angela, who, like me, spent her childhood hiking the forests with her dad.

Is there a connection between your design and the Victorinox brand?

See above description. I would like to have a replacement-Victorinox for Börni and like-minded porcini-aficionados the world over. Similarly, one could claim the Victorinox knife can even cut stone. Be it in the form of responsibly harvested stone-fleshed mushrooms.

Please make sure you have filled out your country of origin in your profile! It’s important that the regional Victorinox team understands the cultural background of your design.

Have you used any third-party material? Even if you've modified or combined it, please know that in this project no stock is accepted. See "mandatory requirements" (in the Brief) for details.

None on the knife itself. All is modeled and rendered by me. On the reference-photos some of the collaged images include modified stock-photos that i haven't re-modeled into a 3d-cartoonish animal myself yet.
