Dreamy Feathers
When the peacock displays its span of majestic feathers and you see the true beauty from Nature.

When I was thinking about wich animal should I portrait in this contest, I start remenbering of one day that I spent in one of my favorite places in Porto, Portugal. I live in Porto since I was born and even though the city is always moving in a unstopable passe, I still find myself prefering to go to quiet palces, such as the Palácio de Cristal (Cristal Palaces, even if it isn't in cristal!). There you find a beautiful garden, where animals live and hung around freely and one of my favourite is the peacock. I simply love birds, but when I see a peacock I simply think that they are so elegant! One day, I saw one of the peacocks showing off its feathers in a fan. The colors turn out to be even more colorful and even it posture changed. I simply love that memorie. And I decided that the peacock would be my reference and inspriation to this design. I know that Portugal is all the time referenced with the Barcelos rooster, but I simply love the idea that in the meadle of a city such as Porto we can find some particular birds such as the peacock and I wanted to bragg it anyway. I wanted to do something that I truly love and admire.

Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?

I live in Porto (Portugal) and one of my favorite places to go is Palácio de Cristla (Cristal Palace). There, you can find a beautiful garden where some animals, mostly birds, can all freely and cross us. And one of my favourite animal is the peacock. For that reason, I choose the peacock itself us the reference for my design.

What culture or region does the animal stand for?

Most of the times, people associates Portugal with the rooster, from Barcelos. But first I didn't want to do the basic option and I live in Porto not in Barcelos and secondly I wanted to use as base an animal that I trully like and that represent an image or a memorie from my city, at least for me. Everyone of my friends know that I love birds and when I go to Palácio de Cristal I always visit the peacocks and take pictures, so, it seemed to me that it was the best option for me.

What story does your design tell?

What I really like about the peacocks are their feathers. When they are calm, the feathers of its tail remains equally rlaxadas and repousadas. But when something interferes with their peace or they are in a mating stage, peacocks display their tails. Then, they exhibit an huge range of colors that blend between green, blue and gold. They become even more elegant. And I wanted to create something that shows that moment of transformation.

What style did you choose for your design and why?

I didn't want to do some vectorial design with a very stylish lines. I wanted something with a strock with a more organic look, more natural. So, the feathers are made with an irregular and texturized strock with variations of colors. Everything is intensified with aquarela as a background.

Please make sure you have filled out your country of origin in your profile! It’s important that the regional Victorinox team understands the cultural background of your design.

I'm from Porto, Portugal. Like I said before, the reference to the design was the Palácio de Cristal (Cristal Palace) where you can find some peacocks.

Have you used any third-party material? Even if you’ve modified or combined it, please know that in this project no stock material is accepted. See “Guidelines, regulations & comments” (in the brief)
