The Panda
The design uses the shape of the Victorinox Swiss Knife to create the image of a panda bear.

Using the plain color and the shape of the Swiss Knife, I created the image of a panda bear using simple shapes, just enough to contour the idea. The details are minimal, due to the size of the object, in order to ensure that it will be clean and visible when printed. The fur, the white background, the eyes and nose, three black spots, and one black dot on the back side stands for the tail. Simple geometry and a monochromatic palette are key to this design.

Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?

The visual of this design represents the panda bear, as a reminder of slowing down, and appreciating day to day life more. The panda was my first choice as a symbol that has managed to cross boarders and become loved worldwide, known for its cute habits, and carefree lifestyle. More importantly, it is probabily the most representative animal in terms of species conservation, being one of the rarest bears in the world.

What culture or region does the animal stand for?

The panda is typical of Chinese culture ( Sichuan area ), but is a globally known and appreciated animal, as one of the rarest and most beautiful creatures.

What story does your design tell?

Keep it simple and use what you already have. No need to add extra elements, as long as the idea stands out at its full potential as it is.

What style did you choose for your design and why?

Simple geometric shapes, monochrome palette, minimal design.

Please make sure you have filled out your country of origin in your profile! It’s important that the regional Victorinox team understands the cultural background of your design.
