At frontside of the knife, the dormice sleep as they do the most time of the year. At the backside of the knife they are awake and climbing. Asleep vs. awake!
Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?
Dormouse, living in Europe (very populated in Germany). The dormouse was the Animal of the Year 2004 in Germany.
What culture or region does the animal stand for?
Germany / Europe
What story does your design tell?
Dormice sleeping, as this is how they mostly spend their time of the year. (The hybernation goes from September until May). In the past germans believed this animal sleeps for seven months. That’s where it got its name: Sieben (= seven) -schläfer (= sleeper). Now it’s known that this time varies from seven to nine months.
What style did you choose for your design and why?
I decided to make a more realistic looking design to highlight the cute fluffy tail of the dormouse (which makes the appearing difference to a normal mouse or grey squirrel). There is a good contrast between the fresh green color of the leaves and the grey fur of the mouse.
Please make sure you have filled out your country of origin in your profile! It’s important that the regional Victorinox team understands the cultural background of your design.

Hi! This is SQUIRREL GRAPHICS from Münster, Germany. We are a design agency with a team of graphic specialists and we thought this could be a very nice pitch as product and packaging design is our main work. Here you can see the dormice. They are imaged in their typical sleeping way, related to a conception of them, anyone have.
