Peace Doves
Doves with olive branches as universal symbol of peace and prosperity.

Solution

White dove with olive branch is acknowledged worldwide to be a symbol of peace so my design is to be perceived as a message of peace which I believe is pretty actual today. Peace doves printed on an army knife are even a stronger reminder that we should protect peace using our human skills and technologies not to harm but to serve the progress and the common good. Furthermore the Victorinox logo (Swiss cross) relates to ancient knights nobility and the white doves fully represent the same semantic family.

Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?

The white dove as a symbol of peace.

What culture or region does the animal stand for?

The white dove holding olive leaf in its beak as a symbol has Christian origin (related to God's Covenant with Noah's descendants and also with one of the manifestations of the Holly Spirit during Christ's baptism). However nowadays the white dove with olive branch has become universal symbol of peace and prosperity. Picasso's lithograph, La Colombe (The Dove), realistic picture of a pigeon, without olive leaf, was chosen as the emblem for the World Peace Congress in Paris in April 1949.

What story does your design tell?

According to the Biblical story, after the great flood, Noah sends out a dove to see if the waters have subsided. The dove returns with a fresh olive leaf in its beak and thus can be perceived as a symbol of the Covenant. The use of a dove and olive branch as a symbol of peace originated with the early Christians, who portrayed the act of baptism accompanied by a dove holding an olive branch in its beak and incorporated it into their funerary art often accompanied by the word "PEACE".

What style did you choose for your design and why?

Simplified, naivistic as I wanted the dove to resemble drawing of a child.
