金魚 (Kingyo, The Goldfish)
Two homes one animal.
1/8

Solution

Red and gold goldfishes swim trough a pond with water ripples and maple tree twigs rest over them.

Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?

When I was living and working in Japan I saw a lot that fascinated me. During the summer months, where the summer is celebrated with festivals and firework one animal always caught my eye, the goldfish. Standing for wealth and luck you see them on festival stands, on Yukatas (a traditional summer Kimono) and season cards - it is everywhere. Even now that I moved back to Germany, when I see a goldfish, I remember the summer days in Japan, and that is why I choose the Japanese Kingyo pattern.

What culture or region does the animal stand for?

Japan and Germany. They are a bridge between these two countries for me.

What story does your design tell?

My design tells the story of summer months in Japan and the feeling of longing and connection from another country to the other.

What style did you choose for your design and why?

I choose traditional Japanese patterns with aquarelle because it suits the flowing water design. Everything was done on computer though.

Please make sure you have filled out your country of origin in your profile! It’s important that the regional Victorinox team understands the cultural background of your design.

Germany (it used to be Japan for quite a while)

Have you used any third-party material? Even if you’ve modified or combined it, please know that in this project no stock material is accepted. See “Guidelines, regulations & comments” (in the brief)

I did not use any third party material. As it uses traditional patterns you will probably see similar designs on greeting cards or fabric, but this is a 100% mine. If there is need of proof I have the open files and development steps of the project.

To be featured on facebook as the Victorinox "Pick of the Day" please write a short statement about you (see more details in the brief).
