A contrast of cultures.
Your Swiss Army Knife 2017
Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?
What culture or region does the animal stand for?
What story does your design tell?
The Monarch Butterfly is known for making a journey from Mexico to Canada every year. I tried to tell this journey by creating the same elements but designed in the styles according to each culture on each side of the knife. On one side we have Canadian Native symbols, like the sun, flowers and butterflies in the way Canadian natives symbolizes them. On the other side we have the same elements but inspired by the "bordados" and art-crafts native Mexican cultures symbolizes them.
What style did you choose for your design and why?
Symbolic and representative of their own places.
Please make sure you have filled out your country of origin in your profile! It’s important that the regional Victorinox team understands the cultural background of your design.
This one is more personal since I'm studying in Canada for the last couple of years, but I'm Mexican by Nationality. My mom says I'm her Monarch Butterfly.

Hello! I am Jimena and I'm Mexican. I've been working as a designer/illustrator for about 8 years now. I created this design for Victorinox cause I think my style will benefit and give something productive to this Victorinox product. I combine color & traditional patterns from Mexico and Canada, since I have lived in both. I wanted to create something that mixes two different cultures, but still share a lot in common. Our differences unite us.
