PUG LIFE
I didn't choose the pug life, the pug life choose me.

Solution

For the front side I choose a smiling pug that looks at the logo like it's something that he likes (especially because is says PUG LIFE and it reveals a dog snack). But my idea came in the back side of the knife where a little pug stays in the back and then it comes rolling in front. After he disappears and reappears again, in a funny way, and sees "you" and he is getting happier. For the background I choose pastel colors with tiny paws.

Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?

In my country they began to became popular and, as I am a dog lover myself, after I saw one I couldn't resist them. The pug's comical face, with deep wrinkles around big, dark eyes and a flat round face, can't help but make you smile.

What culture or region does the animal stand for?

Pugs originated in China and the first pugs brought to Europe came with the Dutch traders. It is believed that the Pug's name comes from the Latin word for "fist" because his face resembles a human fist. Pugs quickly became favorites of royal households throughout Europe. As the Pug's popularity spread throughout Europe, it was often known by different names in different countries. In France, it was called Carlin; in Spain Dogullo; in Germany and Romania Mops; and in Italy, Caganlino.

What story does your design tell?

The story of the design tells the life of a pug. The smiling pug is representative for their breed. He is a playful, comical dog that enjoys living it up, and delights his owner with silly antics. The little pug that stays in the back and then it comes rolling in front and the he reappears again and sees "you" tells the truth about pugs that craves affection and is very unhappy if his devotion isn't reciprocated.

What style did you choose for your design and why?

I began with a hand drawing that match the knife, then I choose a graphical representation that fits with the funny colorful style of the design and the theme.

Please make sure you have filled out your country of origin in your profile! It’s important that the regional Victorinox team understands the cultural background of your design.

Yes, I filled my country.
