ECHIDNA - AUSTRALIA (UPDATED)
The indigenous Australian Echidna is the star of this Swiss Army Knife!
1/8

Solution

A simple oversize graphic transforms the Swiss Army Knife into a cute, pocketable Echidna. A flat illustration style with minimal shading and basic geometic elements captures the fun nature of the animal. The silhouette and overall shape of the Echidna lends itself well to the knife's forms.

Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?

When people think 'Australian animals', the poor Echidna is often forgotten in favor of the kangaroo, koala, shark, etc. We wanted something that matches the uniqueness of the product. The silhouette and overall shape of the Echidna lends itself well to the knife's forms.

What culture or region does the animal stand for?

Australia

What story does your design tell?

No background story, simply the curious and cute appeal of the friendly Echidna!

What style did you choose for your design and why?

A contemporary, flat illustration style with minimal shading and basic geometic elements captures the fun nature of the animal.

Please make sure you have filled out your country of origin in your profile! It’s important that the regional Victorinox team understands the cultural background of your design.

I was born in Melbourne, Australia but currently live in Italy. When I was a young boy living in the country side of South East Melbourne, one of these Echidnas got stuck in an outdoor vase. We got it out but it was shy and dug it way into the ground in about 10 seconds! It was one of the first times I thought an animal was honestly 'cute'.

Have you used any third-party material? Even if you’ve modified or combined it, please know that in this project no stock material is accepted. See “Guidelines, regulations & comments” (in the brief)

Hello! My name's Mark Salerno, I am an Industrial Designer and University Teacher. I am from Melbourne, Australia but live in Milan, Italy. When I was a young boy living in the country side, one of these Echidnas got stuck in an outdoor vase. We got it out but it was shy and dug it way into the ground in about 10 seconds!
