Carpathian Deer
A gracious, imposing deer.

Reconnect people, land and nature. The deer is one of the old symbols of the Romanian people. A sacred animal.

Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?

The Carpathian red deer. There is no other graciously and more elegant creature, yet so powerful and imposing. The deer is often linked with the tree of life due to his horns, that periodically renew.

What culture or region does the animal stand for?

They inhabits most of the Europe, including Romania. The population is well represented in the Carpathian mountains and a few parts of hill and lowland forests. I've had the pleasure to encounter a couple of them a few years back.

What story does your design tell?

I want to express the connection between animals and people. The deer is the king of the forest, representing the goodness, purity, honor and honesty. People should save animals, celebrate them. Embroidered motifs are used to decorate costume items. The garments used to be worn at celebrations.

What style did you choose for your design and why?

Flat, clear design combined with the traditional, geometrical pattern of the embroidery.

Please make sure you have filled out your country of origin in your profile! It’s important that the regional Victorinox team understands the cultural background of your design.
