My idea takes key elements of an ancient culture that currently many stories continue to emerge, the Maya culture. So I look at this idea reflect a part of history and the characteristic elements of the same, to present one of many stories.
Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?
Hummingbird, because it is a small and fragile bird, but with great beauty which arise many stories and in my country, Mexico, there are several types of hummingbirds, so its representation seemed very interesting to use idea.
What culture or region does the animal stand for?
In the Maya culture, it is said that the hummingbird was created by the gods to send wishes and thoughts from one place to another, both good and bad, and if a person caught one, the bird would die, so no one he has seen a hummingbird in a cage or in the hand of a person
What story does your design tell?
Small and delicate beauty of a bird that lives for freedom.
What style did you choose for your design and why?
I chose a very attached to the ancient codices of the Maya culture style, as their characteristics reflect the most representative origins of our ancient cultures, likewise, this style allowed me to abstract and summarize the image of the hummingbird in a more simple idea, attractive and representative.

Hola!, my name is Oscar, I am 21 years old, and I live in the State of Mexico. I created this illustration for VICTORINOX because the hummingbird has always seemed to me a very beautiful and mysterious bird, and knowing the story told about these birds, made me appreciate even more, so I want to share this thought with others.
