Solution

This design inspired from Arowana Super Red the most beautiful freshwater fish in the world. Has elongated and slender body like a dragon, arowana super red has very attractive scales pattern. The body of arowana also look like a knife. With a slogan: "keep it simple", I made this design based on those reason.

Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?

I choose arowana super red because mostly people (especially Indonesian) say it’s the most beautiful freshwater fish in the world and some people believe arowana bring us luck. The Super Red base color also match for the basic Victorinox red color. Also, and very important reason, I choose Arowana because I like predator fish a lot.

What culture or region does the animal stand for?

Arowana Super Red (Scleopages sp.) is a typical fish from Indonesia which is only found in Kapuas River and Sentarum Lake, Borneo. It also has a dragon shape in arowana body and there is no doubt about the beauty of arowana super red scales.

What story does your design tell?

The design inspired from the beauty of arowana scales pattern. It’s a favorite fish to be kept in an aquarium. It can only be trade from captivity because arowana super red is endangered fish and only be found in Kapuas River and Sentarum Lake, Borneo. It makes arowana super red to be a very expensive fish. So this design allow people to own their arowana in their pocket.

What style did you choose for your design and why?

As a designer, I always apply the slogan: “keep it simple”. I only made a design pattern of arowana scales to be placed on the Victorinox knife cover. There is no need for another detail such as the fin or tail because the beauty of arowana is focused in the scales pattern and the shape of arowana is elongated and slender just like a knife so it will be suitable to be placed in the Victorinox shape. Basically I only add the pattern on the Victorinox basic color to be more attractive.

Hi there! I’m Gilang, 23 years young from Indonesia, I work as a designer in Jakarta and this is my design to be placed on Victorinox Classic Knife. I like fish a lot and have 4 aquarium and 6 predator fish in my tank, including arowana. My design allowed us to have both Victorinox knife and Arowana Super Red in our pocket.
