Solution
Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?
Wolf. I chose an animal in need of help.
What culture or region does the animal stand for?
In my design, the wolf stands for Norway, but they are also well known all over the world.
What story does your design tell?
The wolves of Norway are being treated inequitably. They are being killed off due to the fear in farmers of losing livestock. It is estimated that farmers in Norway “release about 2 million sheep to open grazing lands“ and about 120,000 of them go missing annually. “Including natural accidents, being hit by cars and trains and predators including wolves and wolverines.“ But the estimated sheep lost to wolf predation varies from 380 to 1,800, which means their influence on the loss is minimal.
What style did you choose for your design and why?
Classical hand drawing with colored pencils. I prefer the old fashioned way of creating art.
Please make sure you have filled out your country of origin in your profile! It’s important that the regional Victorinox team understands the cultural background of your design.
I represent Estonia, although I currently reside in the Netherlands and deliver the message of Norway’s wolves.
Have you used any third-party material? Even if you’ve modified or combined it, please know that in this project no stock material is accepted. See “Guidelines, regulations & comments” (in the brief)
No, I have not.
To be featured on facebook as the Victorinox "Pick of the Day" please write a short statement about you (see more details in the brief).
Hello! I am Kristiina, 22 years old, currently living in the Netherlands and working as an au pair. Art has been my main interest for about 10 years, but this is the first design I have made just for a specific project. I created this design for Victorinox, because I believe a big message can be delivered on such a small surface. The most important thing about my design is the idea. I combined a lot of symbols, so not all are shown clearly.
