Remembering: The Mexican Bear
A little tribute to the late Ursus arctos nelsoni.

Mexico has some few unique species, some of themendangered. I decided to illustrate an extinct animal to introduce one of these species, hoping to raise awareness of what we are losing due to the hunting and and the rampant invasion of the habitat of our animals.

Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?

The mexican bear was one of the biggest mammals in Mexico, it was considered extinct in the year of 1964. With this illustration I want to pay a little homage to this animal and show the world the representation I have of it.

What culture or region does the animal stand for?

What story does your design tell?

More than a story is the representation of what I read about the appearance of this animal.

What style did you choose for your design and why?

A drawing with flat colors and with a heavy emphasis in the line, I wanted to give to the ilustration a of fantasy look, like the animal was part of and old story or tale.

Please make sure you have filled out your country of origin in your profile! It’s important that the regional Victorinox team understands the cultural background of your design.

I'm Fernando, graphic artist from México. This was a bear that used to live in some parts of my country but since 1964 it's no longer here, I made this design because bears are (visually) my favorite animals, and I wanted to made a little tribute to it.
