My main idea was to portrait the frogs´s distinctive physical characteristics from my the vague memories from the trip i had years ago when i first had a real encounter with this kind of animals, i really tried to make something abstract with the design and also make count the sense of a rainy day using overlapping circles as those formed when rain falls in a patch of water.
I chose the Mexican Dumpy Tree Frog, the Pachymedusa dacnicolor or also named as Mexican leaf frog is found on the western coast of southern Mexico in subtropical or tropical dry forests and Northern South America, i believe this frog is endemic to Mexico.
Mainly stands for Mexico (Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacan y Guerrero) and few regions of Northern South America.
I have lived and spared most of life time at the north of Mexico but is pretty common for me and my family to visit a beach city named Mazatlan almost every year, so a 20 years ago i had contact with this kind of animals near a big natural reservation, it was a very rainy day and i got lost for 45 minutes because the group of people i was hicking with took another trail back to the village-hotel so it was worth it because i ¡found a pair of leaf frogs with this super intense amazing green color
I think with this design i tried to used shape circles with different size to shape the frogs, i usually sketch all scan it and then later i vectorize in the computer everything i design adding spot colors with a reduced and basic color palete, then with another digital program i begin the final details adding some interesting texture and more detail to the ilustration.
