I aimed to show off one of the UK's most colourful birds, by covering the design in bright and bold Kingfishers!
Solution
Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?
I wanted to select an animal that is well known in Britain, but is also a colourful species recognisable globally. I have drawn the Common Kingfisher which can be seen in across Britain, and also has a cosmopolitan distribution across the world.
What culture or region does the animal stand for?
I have represented Britain by drawing one of our most colourful birds, the Common Kingfisher. However varying species can be seen across the world, so can reflect many places and cultures.
What story does your design tell?
I don't have a particular story for this design, I just wanted to draw a beautiful and colourful bird.
What style did you choose for your design and why?
I chose to hand draw the Kingfishers and colour them digitally so that I could achieve the detail and bright colours necessary to depict these beautiful birds.
