Solution

This is a collection where I'll try to show in my own way, Mexican Cultures and their Arts expressions. The concept of this collection as asked in the brief is to show an animal from my country or area, also inspired in my culture.

Which animal(s) did you choose as a visual and why?

Native “Zapotecas” from the region don’t have a written story of their inmigration here, they believe they are born from the rocks, trees and jaguars in this place.

What culture or region does the animal stand for?

The richest multi-cultural state in México, with more than 16 ethnic groups. Almost three quarters of this state are ruled with traditions and costumes, the rest is ruled by modern politics.

What story does your design tell?

Mexico has had many many cultures and art expressions though history until today and this is why I came up with the idea of showing as many as I can.

What style did you choose for your design and why?

This technique has been used for many centuries by Zapotecos and Mixtecos in the region. In 1950 a woman called Rosa Real found a way to make it darker and shinier, though it makes the piece more fragile this technique gained more popularity, originaly it used to be matte dark gray but stronger.

Please make sure you have filled out your country of origin in your profile! It’s important that the regional Victorinox team understands the cultural background of your design.

To be featured on facebook as the Victorinox "Pick of the Day" please write a short statement about you (see more details in the brief).

Hi! I am Eduardo de la O Chi, I am 29, and I live in Mexico City. I work here as an architect, designer and a 3D Artist since 2006. I created this design for Victorinox cause I think "The Tree of Life" is one of the most beautiful expressions in the world as many others we have here. I hope this design makes you more curious about Mexico and our culture.
