Layers of Kyoto
Kyoto is the city where one can best experience the many layers of Japanese tradition and culture.

Kyoto as the former capital of Japan is still the core of traditions with its many shrines, temples, the traditional architecture, the Gion district where you can meet beautiful geishas and maikos and really "feel" the Japanese culture. The design shows these multiple layers of culture through famous landmarks of Kyoto and Japan. Fushimi-Inari Taisha is one of the most recognisable and one-of-a-kind shrines in Kyoto. Passing through its countlessly repeating red gates as one accends toward Ichi-no-mine shrine on the top is like a journey to the self and an experience to remember.

Which place, city and country is featured in your design? (place/city/country)

Mount Fuji; Yasaka Pagoda, Kyoto, Japan; Fushimi-Inari Taisha, Kyoto, Japan; Traditional Japanese architecture Traditional kimono

Describe why you have chosen this place as a visual? What story does your design tell?

The design represents the many layers of Japanese tradition and culture present in Kyoto.
The front shows a maiko in a kimono with a traditional Japanese pattern in front of a city view of traditional architecture, the tall Yasaka pagoda one cannot unsee and the majestic and beloved Mount Fuji as the city's backdrop. The backside shows the geisha exiting Fushimi-Inari Taisha - a famous Kyoto shrine, just in front of the row of red torii-gates leading toward Ichi-no-mine shrine at the top.
