The Netherlands is famous for its water works, reclaiming land (with e.g. mills) and the connection with water. The design shows a cross section of a part of the Netherlands with its variety of soils beneath, the different landscapes on top and famous elements belonging to this landscape. And of course the majestic sky with all shapes of clouds, the Dutch skies painters were so inspired by, is part of this scenery as well.

I would like to show the beautiful diversity and uniqueness of the Dutch landscape. Man-made land created by hard work. Working against, but also with the water. A landscape strongly influenced by the sea, the soils beneath and the ingenuity of the Dutch people throughout history. A cross section will show this relation best.
Hi, my name is Anne-Margreet Niemeijer (of Blue Dew Design) and I am an illustrator and surface pattern designer. This design was inspired by my background in Landscape Architecture, the beautiful diverse Dutch landscapes and its relation to water. The cross section shows that large part of the country lies below sea level, which is unique. On top of the different soils a divers and iconic landscape has evolved throughout history.
