The design represents Australia, as it is displayed on a map on the front side of the knife, and two kangaroos running in the wild on the back side. It borrows from the Australian style of painting, which I find is the best way to represent the stark landscapes that this country presents, and also gives sense of the beauty that is inherent in that place. The black background that the aborigines use for their paintings is also very suitable for a Victorinox one-in-a-million design.
Which place, city and country is featured in your design? (place/city/country)
What is featured is the country of Australia with one of its iconic animals on the back - the kangaroo.
Describe why you have chosen this place as a visual? What story does your design tell?
I was inspired by the incredible Australian indigenous art. The way they use colour to represent their homeland is incredible and I thought that it would make a great image for a Limited Edition Swiss Army Knife.

Hi, my name is Ivaylo Matkov, a designer/animator/artist on a freelance practice. Currently I reside in Sofia, Bulgaria, and this here is my submission for the Jovoto Victorinox Limited Edition Swiss Army Knife 2018 competition. It was inspired by the art of Australia's indigenous people and I think that it translated really well to a small pocket knife. Please tell me what you think about it - any little feedback helps :)
