With this design I wanted to make Mount Fuji the most prominent and important part of the the piece, since it is an enduring symbol of Japan and such a source of reverence and beauty for the Japanese people. It is also a landmark that I have had the pleasure of experiencing in person, as I fulfilled a lifelong ambition to visit Japan a couple of years ago.
On the back it features Mount Fuji, the Japanese flag, a bonsai tree, a Japanese pagoda and a Torii (which is a gate found at the entrance of a Shinto Shrine). These are all images that come to mind when imagining Japan and are important symbols of history, nature and culture for both Japanese people and those visiting the country.
I have kept the design simple as when I visited Japan I was drawn to the simplicity of a lot of the graphics there.
