Kushari - Egypt
Egyptian dish originally made in the 19th century; made of rice, macaroni and lentils

Hi.. I am Hicham, an Egyptian architect living in Alexandria.

Kushari was invented as a vegetarian food by the local French people and they call it "couches de riz". Nowadays, it is widely popular among all Egyptians.

Kushari consists of unmixed ingredients (up to 7).. rice, Hommos, 2 kinds of lentils (Brown & yellow), and 3 kinds of macaroni (spaghetti, penne & elbow). Extra order is served in separate dishes for each ingredient along with different kinds of salads and appetizers.
