Show older comments (9)Hello. Thank you for the appreciation. Air is controlled throught the pipes that connect the sheets to the base body. The frames are sealed but air circulates based on the best fit program for drying and ironing. With temperature control the remaining water is transformed into steam then exhausted through one of the air intakes. If by pockets you mean the frames. If you mean actual airtight pockets in clothes - i never knew such a thing existed :D Good luck to you too Alexandru, Darius
Ok but how will you get the steam and water out of that tight space and off the polymer walls?
Air pressure, temperature control, scan system (detects where water/steam is) dries all water remaining within the clothes and the appliance.

Interesting approach and awesome design/renders! I like how you and Tina developed different types of appliances to complete/expand the uses of your team concept design.
Could you please explain couple of details to me ? :) I've read your presentation and wanted to ask if the grid of thermo conductive metal is on the outer, within or inner side of the polymer sheets ? I'm asking this because if it will be on the inner side, it might damage and even burn the clothes during the drying process. Also, I did a fast google check on aerogel (I'll admit I haven't heard of it) and they were saying it has low thermal conductivity, despite its solid and lightweight properties. If you decide to go with aerogel, would it mean that the power consumption will increase? And if not, have you thought about an alternative to it ? Looking forward for you solutions! :)

I appreciate your kind words, to be honest i had a blast doing these. Now, to answer your questions... 1. The metal grid is on the inner sides of the sheets. However the layer of aerogel is about 1 cm thick (so i imagined) and the metal grid is placed in the middle of the "thickness" of one aerogel sheet, therefore not touching the clothes. But it doesn't go hot and that's all, here's the vertical scanning system and the A.I. program come into play. Since scanning has come to such a high peak of accuracy and complex computer programs can precisely predict outcomes the temperature is under control and is used exactly as much as it should for optimal results. Moreover, the steel pipes that hold 1 frame (2sheets) control a thin layer of air and use air pressure to cool down or circulate temperature for again, the optimal results.
- On aerogel. (I'm no expert as well, let's say i did more than a quick google search :). It is used because of 2 precise reasons : a) very low thermoconductivity and b) lightweight. A - precisely because the metalic grid is placed "inside" the aerogel sheet and B - water is heavy enough. • this is derived from the design decision to have a "cantilever" like object since live in a poststructural era. To answer your question, no, power consumption will probably be low. The alternatives were glass or some polycarbonate thing. Glass was too heavy and aerogel > polycarbonate.

Yea, I was concerned about these aspects, but you managed to enlighten me with your explanations (which I truly appreciate :) As a side note, from my point of view, I find it vital to think both about design and functionality when coming up with a new concept, which you managed to achieve with this project (and not only)! Thank you again Marius. Design and functionality should complement eachother and evolve constantly and unfragmented throughout the whole process until done. I believe that functionality is a must otherwise an object (that must do something) cannot serve its purpose but the "venustas"part, in my mind, should shred every other thought when somebody looks at the "object". :)

Impressive presentation! Is it exlusively designed for t-shirts or can I dry with it trousers oder underwear too? And how do I manage it that the shirt keeps on the correct position? In my imagination I hold the shirt with the left hand and at the same time I try to close the cover sheet with the right hand.
Thank you Girasole. The t-shirt was used as an exemple for clothes. Normally all clothes could be dried here (including socks and underwear) placed on different hangers. Only thick or sizable clothes aren't mean for this appliance.
Amazing concept, if you simplified the loading process you could revolutionize the washing market!!!
