Zig Zag
Inspired by the Shinto ritual of blessings using folded paper streamers called "shide"

Solution

Hello, my name is Gillian Armitage, I am a painter, sculptor and printmaker living in Vancouver, Canada.

Zig Zag utilises part of an etching I did after a visit to Japan. It is inspired by the Shinto tradition of "shide", zig zagging paper streamers that decorate many a Buddhist temple in Japan. They are used to bless people and things e.g. the harvest, a sick child, a family, or a new house or car etc.

In this Covid-19 era, all of us need to be blessed.
